Who's laughing now?

People kept telling me it couldn't be done. "You can't write an erotic romance with clowns in it AND get it published!" Guess what, sports fans? I did just that! Whoo! Hoo! Hot damn! Noemi with Ocean's Mist Press gave me a helluva Christmas present today when I opened my e-mail and found a contract for my erotic romantic suspense called Silly Fears.

Now I did promise in a previous blog entry that I would reveal the slight twist in my story when I got a contract. The twist is that although there are clowns in the story, the story is not about clowns. (Sorry to those looking to read about clowns getting it on.) The real and true backdrop of the story has to do with voodoo. That's right. That sometimes controversial but always intriguing religion called voodoo. But admit it. Hearing something called clown erotica got you thinking, didn't it?

I'm already thinking about what I want on the cover. It's got to incorporate voodoo, hot sex and clowns. Hmmm, gotta think on that one. While I am, you all enjoy this video from the rock group called Godsmack. The song is called (what else?) "Voodoo". *LOL*

Merry Christmas to you all! I know I'm going to be drinking a little extra eggnog over this news!

For good times and bad times...

...I'll be on your side forever more!!! THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR. No, I'm not doing a bad impersonation of Stevie Wonder. My full-length contemporary interracial erotic romance called That's What Friends Are For has been released today through Liquid Silver Books!

Just because I know you'll ask :) here's a blurb:

Can best friends sleep together and still be friends in the morning?

A former high school cheerleader and a former high school nerd have grown up together and are now best friends. Ned is attracted to Fiona, but thinks she’ll always see him as just a big nerd. Fiona is attracted to Ned, but figures a brainiac like him would want an equally intelligent woman by his side.

So Fiona cooks up a plan that would get Ned a potential promotion at work and get her a job that she thinks will please Ned. In between the pretend relationship and the real one, sparks fly. When the truth Fiona has been hiding is revealed, will their friendship be strong enough to hold them together? Or will this be the end of the friendship that, according to their friends, should have never lasted this long in the first place?

As always, you can read an excerpt on my website or you can read it on the Liquid Silver Books site. So tell me. Can you have sex with your friend and still be friends the next day or is it impossible?

The End...and the beginning!

I'm sure you all have heard me lament over and over and over again how I've been working on the Silly Fears story. I finally buckled down this week and I finished it! Whoo! Hoo! I sent the synopsis and the first 3 chapters to Ocean's Mist Press. Keep your fingers crossed for me. It's more suspense than I've ever written before and it has an interesting twist. I keep calling it a clown erotica because it's just quick and easy to call it that. But if I call it what it should be called, it might give away the twist. If it gets accepted, I'll let you in on the secret.

So I know what you all may be thinking. "Hey, Bridget, now that you finished that story you can relax." I wish! I'm now starting a Christmas story (yeah, yeah, I know) called "Peace, Love and Understanding." Hey, what's so funny about peace, love and understanding? Sorry, couldn't resist. *LOL* In case you're scratching your head about the title, I stole it (quite liberally) from an old Elvis Costello song. I have a thing with songs, don't I? Fascination Street, That's What Friends Are For, "Peace, Love and Understanding." Hmm, problem or niche? I haven't decided yet.

Have you all noticed? I did a little upgrade on my website. I have to do that at least once a week. Go ahead. Look around. Sit down and get comfortable. I'll let you. *LOL* The next time I upgrade the site I'll add excerpts from C-A-I-N and A-B-E-L and my 2 shorts for Midnight Showcase.

Okay, I've played long enough. Time to get to work. I have a book to finish in one day! Agh!

I've only just begun to fight...

Actually it's not a fight...unless you count the 3 of us: me, myself and I. I'm midway (love that word) through my edits for Fascination Street. This is the first time I've edited something this long. As I reread the story, there's so much I want to add and change now. It's a writer thing. We're always trying to one-up ourselves. *LOL* But I'm hoping in the end I have a story that will be both provocative and appealing. If not, just don't tell me. My weak, little heart can't take it. *LOL*

Other than that, things are going spiffy! Once I'm done with the edits, I'm hoping, God, I'm hoping, I can FINALLY put Silly Fears to rest. No, I'm not talking about my own phobias. I'm talking about my clown erotica I've been working on it seems like forever. I did put a big dent in it and I'm hoping by week ending it should all be done. Then there's the revision period. That should go well though. I don't mind revising as much as I do getting the story down. Revising to me is like decorating the house after it's been built. Then I'm going to try something that'll probably kill me: a book in a day. Gasp! We'll see how it goes.

And speaking of going, I have to head to work. Blah!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

My "Chances" publisher said that my interracial, May-December erotic romance has already sold over 100 copies! Okay, again, this will not make Nora Roberts nervous. But consider this. My novella was released on November 16th so within a couple of weeks I sold that many copies! Thank you all for letting me be the first Erotique Press author to achieve this milestone. Without you all, I wouldn't be able to successfully do what I do. It would simply be a hobby instead of a dream I could actually reach.

BIG SMOOCH!!!

Floating dicks, a few sales and a contract...

Well, the "In The Pink" book signing event is over and done with, and I am just winding down. Whew! What a weekend. The whole thing felt like a blur. Whoosh! I did have a great time though. Even though I had seen Devi Sparks and Robin Slick at the Romantic Times convention this past April, it was wonderful to see them again. I finally met fellow Phaze authors Jessie Verino, Jayelle Drewry and Petula Caesar. Pairing up with Leigh Ellwood and my girl, Laura Bacchi felt like old times again. I miss you being local, Laura. The T.I.E.D. folks are going to have a play party some time soon. ;) Just a suggestion.

I was REALLY happy to see my Phaze publisher, Stacey L. King, not because she is my publisher (all hail the great and powerful Stacey!) but because she surprised me by saying that she's going to offer me a contract for the follow-up story to "Adam and E-V-E" called C-A-I-N and A-B-E-L! Talk about your great surprises!

Of course I took lots of pictures of the event. As soon as I get them developed I'll post them on my website. Yes, I'm definitely old school. *LOL* It wouldn't be an event at The Pink Banana Boutique without Mr. Happy (the floating penis) hovering over our heads. I sold 21 books all together. I don't think Nora Roberts has anything to worry about. *LOL* But for me, that was pretty good. And I met a very enthusiastic fan named Cinquetta who found me on Interracial Multicultural Romance Readers. She promised to come down and see me and that she did. I was sorry she didn't win one of the 2 gift baskets, but I really hope she enjoys "Walls" and all the other books she bought at the signing.

I wish I could jaw some more but I have to go. Things to do. Stories to write. Hearts to break. Characters, not my own. *LOL*

Everything's coming up roses!

Or maybe I should say, "I love you, a bushel and a peck!" Look at those pecks! Yowsa! That, ladies and gentlemen, is the cover of my novella through Erotique Press called "Chances". Purrrr! I'm taking a break from rereading the story right now to make sure it's ready for the public. Then it'll go on sale this week! Whoo! Hoo! And I just got the thumbs up from the publisher that I can sell copies at the "In The Pink" book signing this Saturday. Can my day get any better? So that'll be 2 new books I'll be signing on Saturday. I love it.

Okay, I've been playing around long enough. Time to get back to work. I have a story to finish and books to sell!

Still doing my happy dance!

Here's my new cover for my Liquid Silver Books upcoming full-length novel That's What Friends Are For. I'm thrilled with the cover. April Martinez, Liquid Silver Books' cover artist, did an amazing job of capturing what my hero and heroine look like and the tone of the book. I hope this means I'm closer to a release date. I can't wait for this book to come out and Fascination Street and Interpersonal Skills and "The Lesson" and "Suburbia" and "Chances" and "Hired Hand" and...I have too much stuff out there, don't I? *LOL*

Anyway, I'll let you all know when this book is out. Meanwhile, I'm getting ready for my group book signing coming up this Saturday. Gulp! When I arranged this back in July, I thought it couldn't get here fast enough. Now that it's right around the corner, I need more time! *LOL*

If you all can make it to The Pink Banana Boutique in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Saturday, November 19th, I would love to see you there!

How should I feel?

As you all know, I've sort of ingrained myself with the members of a local BDSM group called T.I.E.D. Last night one of the submissives for the Domme I've been primarily dealing with announced that as of Friday night, she had been "released". What this means is that she'll no longer serve her Mistress.

Now as a black woman, seeing that she wouldn't be serving anyone again and she had been released should have relieved me. Instead I felt differently for her. I've seen how this woman interacts with her Mistress and the other submissive, a male, in the house. I know that serving makes her extremely happy. So now I have to wonder if her leaving will put a hole in her that will never get filled. I also wonder what made her decide to break from her Domme in the first place. But ultimately I'm afraid for her and I don't know why. I just feel like with her Domme she was safe and protected. She didn't have to make excuses for her lifestyle or what she liked and wanted. Could she possibly get that type of love, protection and freedom outside of that structure?

I'm sure she'll be okay. I'm sure it's just my mind working overtime. But I do worry, which means that I care. If you're reading this, take care lilone. Hope everything turns out all right for you.

Tagged again!

People must want to keep a track on me. *LOL* I've been tagged again by Leigh Ellwood. This time it's about threesomes. Hey! Hey! Settle down! Not that type. Just read on and see who I'll tag next.

Three screen names that you've had: Just 3? Cleopatra Jones, Tamara Dobson (see the Cleopatra Jones reference) and Miss Mahogany. Don't ask.

Three things you like about yourself: My sense of humor, my comic timing and my warped mind.

Three things you don't like about yourself: The hairs on my chinny chin chin (getting old sucks!), my need to please others before I please myself, and my lack of confidence in my writing...at times!

Three parts of your heritage: My nose, my large breasts and my writing ability.

Three things that scare you: Heights, snakes and religious zealots.

Three of your everyday essentials: My laptop, lotion of any kind and a publisher's acceptance letter. You other writers don't get that every day? It's just me? *LOL* Yeah, I wish.

Three things you are wearing right now: Actually I'm only wearing 3 things right now. A brown-and-tan striped sweater, tan bra and tan panties. I am southern. Southern women have to match their underwear to their outerwear. Didn't you know that?

Three of your favorite songs: "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel (loved it way before it was in the movie "Say Anything"), "Pagan Poetry" by Bjork, and "The Chauffeur" by Duran Duran. An oldie but a goodie.

Three things I want in a relationship: Laughter, honesty, trust.

Two truths and a lie: I once met the governor and lieutenant governor of Virginia, I breed Great Danes and show them off in dog shows, I've been to a nudist resort.

Three things you can't live without: Sex, creativity and string cheese.

Three places you want to go on vacation: Hawaii, Australia and Greece.

Three things you just can't do: Stop watching "American Idol", stop lusting after Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and take a lot of pain.

Three kids names: J.J., Michael and Thelma (take your time on that one. It'll sink in eventually)

Three things you want to do before you die: Win an award at an RWA conference, win an award at an RT conference, be a guest on Oprah.

Three celeb crushes: Again, just three? Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Julian McMahon and Harvey Keitel. I know. It's weird.

Three of your favorite musicians: Peter Cincotti, Bjork and Frank Sinatra.

Three physical things about the opposite sex that appeals to you: Great sense of humor, nice eyes and big hands.

Three of your favorite hobbies: writing, writing and writing. Is there anything else?

Three things you really want to do badly right now: Sleep, sleep and sleep. Haven't done that in a while.

Three careers you're considering/you've considered: Veterinarian, physical therapist and courtroom stenographer.

Three ways that you are sterotypically a boy: I watch professional wrestling, I hang out at Hooter's and I like grabbing crotches (not my own)

Three ways that you are sterotypically a girl: I have a huge shoe collection, I have an even bigger purse collection, and I love wearing perfumes and scented lotions.

Three people that I would like to see post this meme: Jenna Allen, Selah March and Anna Fallon.

Our house in the middle of our street!

Hiya, folks! How are you all doing? Yeah, I'm doing okay myself. The weather? Kind of cool. But hey, we are in autumn now, right? Think it's going to be a very cold winter this year. What's that to the left, you ask? Why that's my spiffy, new cover for my upcoming full-length erotica Fascination Street through Venus Press. I'm so thrilled that this book is being published.

To promote it, I have opened up an on-line community on my site. Go to http://www.BridgetMidway.com/FascinationStreet and check it out. I have pictures of what I imagine each character looks like, pictures of their homes and excerpts. But the best part is that you can read what each character is thinking on their blog and chat with the characters in their forum! I think it's going to be a blast. I've already made a formal announcement. My next announcement will be for the contest I'm going to have. I have so many cool things planned for this place. You should definitely join in, otherwise you'll miss all of the fun!

Tagged for migrating purposes!

It's happened again, folks. I've been tagged! This time It's from Jenna Allen. Here are my tasks.

1. Delve into your blog archive. Done that. That was the easy part.
2. Find your 23rd post (or closest to). The 23rd post would have been my most recent post: "When it rains it pours. And I love being wet!"
3. Find the fifth sentence (or closest to). Here's my sentence: Let's talk about my cover for my novella "Public Domain".
4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions. Ponder it for meaning, subtext or hidden agendas. My meaning? I wanted you all to look at the cover. The subtext? I wanted you to like my cover. My agenda? I wanted you to buy my book. *LOL*
5. Tag three people to do the same.

Now I'm going to tag Anna Fallon, Leigh Ellwood and Alessia Brio! Moohaahaahaa!

From rejected to, well, accepted!

It has been an awesome month and we're only in the 8th day! I tell ya, I don't know how much more of this I can take! One day I'm getting 2 rejections in a day, and just yesterday I received a contract from Ocean's Mist Press for the novella I had been working on for ages called "Public Domain", and Liquid Silver Books asked to see the full manuscript for THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR.

So let's do a tally here of just contracted works: "Chances" at Erotique Press, "Suburbia" at Phaze, "Public Domain" at Ocean's Mist Press and Fascination Street at Venus Press. Oh, then I can't forget about the two short erotic tentatively accepted works at Midnight Showcase. I'm on fire! I'm the overnight sensation that only took five years to happen. But if I want to make a name for myself, I have to keep working so expect to see more of The Bridge!

Hate to blog and run but I have to go off and do my Snoopy happy dance. Involves a lot of jazz hands and Riverdance-type stepping.

Rejection...it's a good thing

So I got 2 rejections yesterday. I thought I would feel really bad about it but I didn't. I guess once you've been rejected as many times as I have (insert 'didn't go to prom joke' here) then it just becomes water off a duck's back or something. Wait. I'm a writer. I need to be original. Uh, it becomes an ankle alarm on Martha Stewart's leg. Damn. No wonder I got rejected! Sheesh!

I had to put things in perspective. I'm writing. I don't do it full time like I want to but I am writing. I sometimes get paid for it. Also a good thing. And I'm happy. I knew I was going to get rejected way before I got the e-mails. But I'm glad I got them because now I feel like I can move on. I did the whole "big pub" thing. I'm really pleased with lighting my own path. And I'm also a firm believer in karma. I'm still rubbing my Cindy Cruciger bag that I still carry in my purse since I got it back in April of this year. It's been good to me so far. That and my undying will to succeed.

Hopefully soon you all will see the cover of my full-length novel, Fascination Street. I just sent in the cover I approved. Just waiting for the art director to approve it and add a Ebony Side icon to it and it'll be done. Then the fun starts: editing. Blah! I've never edited a full-length novel before. This should be interesting.

Okay, have to finish this novella I've been working on for what seems like forever and a day! Wish me luck with it.

Getting closer to world domination!

Our "Three The Hard Way" booksigning event at The Pink Banana Boutique in Virginia Beach, Virginia went over smashingly well! Got a lot of great feedback from both customers and the sales associates in the store. So pleased was my publisher over the news that she wanted to do another signing there...only bigger! So now we're going to do another signing on November 19th at The Pink Banana and call it In The Pink. Ohhhhh! Sexy, huh? This time there will be more authors. Click this link to see who's on the line-up. You might be surprised! http://www.phaze.com/InThePink.htm

The day of the signing I met two people from an organization I've been dying to meet. It's called T.I.E.D., Tidewater Individuals Exploring Domination. I sent them a passionate e-mail in April begging them to let me sit in on a meeting because I have BDSM elements in Fascination Street and Interpersonal Skills. I wanted to make sure I had done the scenes correctly. Well I had never heard from them. So when they showed and introduced themselves I was over the moon. Apparently Dama, the PR person for T.I.E.D. and a mistress, had e-mailed me...twice! I never got her mails. So she invited me and Laura Bacchi and Leigh Ellwood to their cookout the next day. I was the only one available the next day so I went and I had a wonderful time! We did something at the cookout, an outside venture if you will, that I will have to include in one of my prequel stories I have planned for Fascination Street. At the end of the day, Dama asked if I would lead a workshop on the erotica publishing market, what publishers are looking for and what to expect. So that's how In The Pink came about. If possible, we would love to hold a workshop the night before the event. Great tie-in, don't you think?

Onto other news, a publisher asked to see the completed manuscript for Fascination Street. Might be that much closer to publication, folks. Keep your fingers crossed.

Okay, I have to go. I've gotten so much flack for not updating my blog. Happy now, Stacy? *LOL*

Oh! I almost forgot! My newest erotic short story is on sale now at Phaze! It's called "Walls". I've gotten one stellar review already. Fame looks good on me. *LOL* It's a big departure from what I normally write. Please check it out.

I got my ass!

FINALLY the poster I ordered from Cafe Press with my new cover for my short story "Walls" came in today! Found it on my porch when I came home for lunch. That juicy tushy looks better bigger than it does on the website. Now I need to mount it. The picture, silly! I know it can't mount me! Going to put it on a hard back and get a stand so I can set it up.

Now I'm just waiting for my biz cards. They have both the "Adam and E-V-E" cover and the "Walls" cover. I'm so clever. I won't know what to do with myself when I get a cover for "Chances" through Erotique Press. Sigh. Decisions, decisions.

Okay, have to go play with the group from eCatareaders!

I did it!

Thanks to a lot of votes (hee, hee!) my short story "Civic Duty" was a weekly winner in the BetterSex.com erotic fiction contest. Whoo! Hooo! I have another step to go through before they'll declare the winner on August first so keep looking out for that news.

In case you hadn't heard, I have 2 contracted works: one with Phaze.com called "Walls" and one with Erotique Press called "Chances". Actually the real name of it was "Chance" but the contract had "Chances" and before I startd my sistagirl head roll I realized that the story was really about giving more than one chance. So it does fit. See, I am a nice person!

I'll have excerpts to both on my website soon so watch out for that.

Wish I could stay longer and chat but I have to earn a living. Blah! Come on, folks! Buy my books so I can write full time. Is that so much to ask for? *LOL* Kidding.
