Now it's my turn at this "Writing Process" blog tour. I got involved thanks to phenomenal author Michelle Monkou. Check out her post from last week.
What am I working on?
Check out the blurb.
I just finished edits for an upcoming contemporary interracial BDSM erotic romance re-release called Woman in Chains. The book will be in ebook and print through Phaze Books in March 2014. I'm working on a couple contemporary interracial BDSM erotic romances for a couple of other publishers. Unfortunately, one of my publishers closed, so I have my work through them back. So instead of just re-releasing them, I'm going to tweak them first. By tweaking I mean lengthen and enhance. Now that I don't have to keep the stories as novellas, I want readers to get fully-fleshed out characters.
How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Check out Corporate Seduction, the first contemporary interracial BDSM erotic romance novel in the Corporate series.
I know that because of the popularity of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy that a lots more authors are writing BDSM. Truth be told, I've been writing BDSM since 2006. What differentiates my work from other BDSM erotic romances is the fact that I write interracial BDSM. That subgenre is very controversial on the outset. However, I write my work where race is not the issue. I write about BDSM to exploit its core. BDSM is about sensations. Some people like a harder sensation than others. Overall, there has to be consent and respect by all parties. That's what I love about writing BDSM. There are so many dynamics to the Lifestyle.
Why do I write what I do?
Love My Way available in ebook and print.
As I mentioned above, I like writing BDSM because of the dynamics in the Lifestyle. I never intended to write BDSM. I thought about the Lifestyle in, probably, the same way people not familiar with the Lifestyle think about it, that it's about violence and hate. People think submissives and slaves are weak-minded. Far from the truth. A submissive or slave has to be very strong and sure of themselves to be involved in the Lifestyle. To write a character like that is a challenge to me. A Dominant hero is the ultimate alpha hero. Alpha males are always fun to write.
How does your writing process work?
Check out my latest release, Licorice Whips, available through Phaze Books in ebook and print.
When I'm writing a novel, I'll start by writing out the hero and heroine's full names (even if I don't use the entire name). I'll describe what each looks like, and will sometimes relate their looks to a particular model or celebrity so that I can have a point of reference. Then I'll write out their internal and external conflicts. Once that's done, I'll write a chapter-by-chapter outline. If I'm going to run into that "muddle in the middle," or what authors commonly call "writer's block," I'd rather experience it in the planning stages than when I'm writing the book. Usually if I get stuck in the middle of the story, it means that my conflict(s) isn't strong enough.
So now that you've learned about me, you definitely will have to check out authors Leigh Ellwood and Di Topaz's blog post on March 17th.
Stay sexy,
